The weather is cold, so that means one thing: it's hotting up for the final countdown to the 2017 Southern Highlands Writers’ Festival!
We have assembled an incredible program of events to be held on one day - Saturday 15th July at The Highlands School of Performing Arts.
Session 1: Andrew Ford in conversation 9:30am – 10:30am, Saturday 15 July Tickets $20
Host of The Music Show on ABC Radio National, Andrew Ford, tells his life story, in a moving and evocative memoir, The Memory of Music. From his early childhood in the Beatles-crazy Liverpool of the 1960s, to his evolving work as a composer, choral conductor and radio presenter, Andrew shares the vivid musical experiences that have shaped his life. Andrew's music is written principally for the concert hall and has been performed in more than 40 countries.
Dr Simon Longstaff AO is Executive Director of The Ethics Centre, co-founder of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas, and has been named one of the True Leaders of the 21st century by AFR BOSS magazine. In his new book, Everyday Ethics, Simon explains how we can live a more ethical life, starting with the decisions we make every day
Session 3: Julia Baird in conversation 1:00pm – 2:00pm, Saturday 15 July Tickets $20
Julia Baird is a journalist, broadcaster and the host of The Drum on ABCTV. Julia writes columns for the Sydney Morning Herald and the International New York Times. Her writing has appeared in a range of publications including Newsweek, The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, the Guardian, the Good Weekend, The Sydney Morning Herald, the Sun-Herald, The Monthly and Harper's Bazaar. Julia’s biography of Queen Victoria was published simultaneously in the US, UK and Australia, and has been a critical and commercial success.
Session 4: Joyce Morgan in conversation 2:45pm – 3:45pm, Saturday 15 July Tickets $20
Joyce Morgan is a former arts editor of The Sydney Morning Herald, and has worked as a journalist in London, Hong Kong and Sydney for more than two decades. In her latest work, Martin Sharp – His Life and Times, Joyce explores the life of the charismatic, unconventional, unique and surprising Martin Sharp. In this richly told and beautifully written biography, Joyce captures the loneliness of a privileged childhood, the heady days of the underground magazine Oz, as well as the exuberant creativity of Swinging London and beyond.
Session 5: Meg Keneally in conversation 4:30pm – 5:30pm, Saturday 15 July Tickets $20
Meg Keneally started her working life as a junior public affairs officer at the Australian Consulate-General in New York, before moving to Dublin to work as a sub-editor and freelance features writer. Currently, Meg is co-writing a fast-paced, witty and gripping historical crime series, under the title The Monsarrat Series, with her father, author, Tom Keneally.
Session 6: 2017 Literary Dinner with Stefano Manfredi 7:30pm, Saturday 15 July, Gibraltar Hotel, Bowral Tickets $70
The 2017 Literary Dinner will be a celebration of Italian food and theatre. Guest chef, Stefano Manfredi, will be cooking from his latest cookbook, New Pizza. Stefano is a leading exponent of modern Italian cuisine in Australia and has operated several restaurants in Sydney since 1983, most notably The Restaurant Manfredi and Bel Mondo. Don't miss this unique opportunity to dine with one of Australia's most celebrated chefs!
After dinner, there will be a performance by renowned Italian actor, Marco Quaglia, and SHWF Festival Director, Michaela Bolzan, in a one-act play by Nobel-prize-winning author, Luigi Pirandello. The play, A Dream, But Perhaps Not?, will be directed by Australian-born, New York-based, producer/director, Sarah Dowland.

There are also only SIX tickets remaining to the Editing for Success workshop which will be on TUES 18th July (9.30am - 1pm) at the Henrietta Rose Room, Bowral Library. Tickets for this event are $65 and can be purchased from The Bookshop Bowral only.
