Record of meeting 27 July 2011

Present: Geoff, Robyn, Jo, David C, David R, Wendy, Mandy, Helene, Leonie and Lyn.


News: Discussion on the men’s shed. Geoff has finished one section of his four part novel. Robyn had visitors from Merimbula. Jo had her car fixed and registered. Jo plans to go to Pyree to research her genealogy. David C had his PSA checked and everything is good. He also said that the Health Care Plan will be withdrawn in October 2011. David R had a cortisone injection and is now pain free. Wendy found king parrots, galahs, currawongs and lorikeets in her yard after the rain. Leonie went to Bairnsdale last week and finalised the sale of her house and went to her old writing group.


Words of the day: Leonie somnambulant = sleep walking, somnolent sleepy drowsy state between awake and sleeping. Geoff MAMIL = middle aged men in Lycra. Robyn touché = comes from the verb "Toucher" in French meaning To Touch. So "Touché" is the action of touching. Or alternatively, "TOUCHE", with an accent on the "e" also means "you got me on that one" as a convincing argument in a conversation. Jo svelte = slender in figure, lithe. Virgule = forward slash. David C triumvirate = group of three people who are in control. David R – antisappointment = yearn then left down. Ambivalent = mixed feelings or contradictory ideas, unsure, love and hate together. Wendy erubescent = to blush or become red in the face. Helene = alopecia hair loss.


Reading of homework: David C meeting the boss at the beach. Jo orange juice and a bikini at work can’t work anywhere else not enough drama too quiet. Robyn bath soap and a headache. Leonie flies to Queensland to escape an annoying boss. Helene dreams of removing the ugly mean boss. Mandy the boss of the dogs diet and games at the beach. Wendy revenge of the mother. David R squirmy wormy bikini wearing CEO.


Exercise: We used the words of the day to write a short story or poem. We wrote about rivers of water, the Mamil culture, view from the triumvirate of alopecia.


Quick write - describe a view that has stuck in your mind, house or favourite eating or drinking place.
David C gave us the Cambewarra view. Jo wrote about an old house inhabited by termites, cockroaches, goanna, frogs, ticks, horse and a rabbit. Robyn a view with hang gliding the thermals. Geoff described a small mountain near Mount Fuji and a tough walk to see the pink sunrise. Leonie falls to her knees and sees God in blue trees. Helene visits a gift shop. Mandy described pristine view of the beach, boats and dolphins in paradise. Wendy made us hungry with a fish and chip shop. David R described dawn at Orin beach.


Homework: Write about The house on the hill or Trees that fall in the night or Dinner time or It’s not that I don’t trust you.
