Whimsy - flight of imagination, dream, vision

Scandal – disgrace, shame, humiliation

Flout – to mock or treat with contempt

Decimate – Originally to reduce by 10% and

        Currently – to destroy most of

Fraud – con, scam, swindle

Chaperone – a person who accompanies another person or group


Writing from words of the day

The three diligent writers decimated the words of the day and wrote about Cooee, The date and In the Judges vision.


Reading of homework

The writers read out stories about - Women covered up, In Sport and at the beach.


Exercise The music was loud

The writers took a series of phrases and words and wrote about - Wax and iced finger buns, A rubber duck and Buy a cake.


 Exercise – Oh ho – moving forward

The writers turned a negative rejection into a positive as they wrote about - You too, The story of the year and The best review a way of looking at things.


Exercise - Bright star

Each writer created a blub for the back cover of the book titled Bright Star. Those descriptions were about Early years about Nicole, A star in my life and Rusty Star


Homework

Choose a window, stare out of the window and record your daydream.

After our break we discussed a range of topics none of which resulted in actual written work but thought provoking anyway.

The writers wrote about – Barry of Bravura, Ground control to Major Tom, His Vocabulary and I have a friend.


Reading of homework

Writers read out their homework on the topics - In church (from Pauline), Poetic ditty, Ziggy’s children and The Queen of the road.


Exercise – A new ridiculous food trend

The writers created exciting food ideas - Pease pudding, Sol de Vin, NZ take away and Dinkum Dazzler.


Exercise - New cereal made of pine bark

The writers created marketing tools for a new cereal - Barking good, Furto recall, Bark bix and Pine leaves.

Homework – carried over from last week

Write a story about Ego.

If you want to delve deeper you can also include the Id and Super-ego - psychological concepts defined in Sigmund Freud’s structural model of the psyche.

Tortuous – verbose, windy, snaky

Aberration – departure from normal

Sophomore – second year from sopho wise

Reprobate – an unprincipled person or sinner

Odium – widespread dislike of a person or action

Solstice – sun at its greatest distance from the earth

Gerrymandering- manipulating to give influence

Writing from words of the day

The writers hid any odium as they wrote about - Prime Ministers, I remember, Majoring in Astronomy, Motherly duties, Over, At Uni and Listening to her mother.

Reading of homework

The writers produced stories containing metaphors and similes’ - Nothing is what is seems, Alien, Drowning, fishing, feeling blue, fast on its feet, He shall eat his words, Orphaned minds, The trucker and The way it used to be.

Exercise – Take a happy pill

The writers took a happy pill and wrote about - Happiness is a state – a rap song, The wine bladder, Diligence, In a bog, Peace in the world and Find a way.

Homework

Write a story about Ego.

At the Opening Night Event, on Friday 20 July as well as our super special advanced screening of The Wife, starring Glenn Close, we will be celebrating two new books:

1. Book Towns by Alex Johnston - Featuring forty

book towns located around the world, including Bowral

2.  The House on the River by Bowral-based author Alexa River and proceeds of the sale of the book will go to the Nature Conservation Council of NSW.

The writers used the words of the day to write about - Convicted, Fate, Bowls of fruit, In Jamaica, Reminds me of diarrhoea, Opening of an art exhibition, Fran has perambulated and Monet’s gardens.

Reading of homework

The writers read out homework about their characters on the topics - Refugee neighbours, Ozzas wants respect and acceptance, John shuns society and wants revenge, Arthur colourless character, Tom has it all but doesn’t get it,The musings of a chair and Annie buys around the world ticket.

Exercise – slightly late

The writers did not delay in writing about - Family events, Red lights, late arrival, habits are hard to break, I outdid myself, does it really matter and it has served me well.

Reminder - Christmas in July lunch

Homework – use a metaphor

Complete Exercise 18 including going back to the pile of material you have for your novel and pick a gap – that is add something to your book.
