Discussion of financial matters
Decision to be made before the end of the financial year

The words of the day             
Esoteric – for select few

Valedictory – a farewell speech
Lousy – full of lice, very poor or bad

Graffiti – write or draw graffiti on something
Famulus – an assistant especially for a magician or scholar

Manslaughter – the crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought

Writing from words of the day
The writers wrote about - A scream, A collector, Insulting the audience, The circus down south, Clean up in Windsor and Have a say.

Reading of homework
The writers read out a diverse range of well constructed stories - A safe haven, Mother and child, The house who wanted to dance, Who’d be a hypocrite, My visit to Istanbul and When I was 17.

Exercise – Four meet in a bar

The four remaining writers created stories on the topics - Class options, At the Cooee bar, I’m tired and Frizz of excitement

Homework

Complete exercise 9 from page 104 - you could use this as your synopsis to send to publishers. For others write a story from the perspective of an inanimate object.




The Dancing House, or Fred and Ginger, is the nickname given to the Nationale-Nederlanden building in Prague, Czech Republic. It was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot. The building was designed completed in 1996.

Bots – a person who persistently borrows from others
Horoscope – observation of heavens at certain times

Tiara – a jewelled ornamental band worn on the front of the hair

Writing from words of the day
The writers botted the words of the day and wrote on - Instant winnings, The Royal wedding, After the Bees knees night club and Confirmed Royalist.

Reading of homework
The four writers wrote about - Lost for words, Meghan awoke, Dark night and Twins in my Brownie group.

Exercise – fondue family dinner


The writers wrote on the topics - hot broccoli, spiked fondue, Friday the 13 th Fondue night and Fondue and a fight

Exercise – Talk is loud, noisy neighbours

The writers provided advice about a noisy neighbour in terms of - A cone of silence and other methods, Shut up & enjoy and Noise can cost.


Homework

Try Exercise 8 on page 96 to help fill out a character in your novel. If your characters are full enough write another chapter.

Chaos – complete disorder and confusion
Delicacy – dainty or luxurious, tender, easily harmed

Slush, slosh – Thawing snow, thin, mud, silly sentiment

Writing from words of the day
The writers grabbed the words of the day like they were wealth and created stories about - The French President, Before he entered the room, I moved in darkness and In the school grounds.

Reading of homework
Three writers read their homework on planning writing a novel in a year on the topics - I write best in the mornings, The blue dress and I’m in it for the fun.

Exercise – six characters

The writers wrote about the six characters in some amusing situations - The French Foreign Legion, Robbing a bank, What a day and Slug on Lettuce.

Exercise - Spoiled rotten

The writers listed six rotten things found in fridges and wrote about - Nightmares of a defrosted freezer, I will slash my wrist, Many things dead and I’m throwing it out.

Homework

Start work on the first or second chapter of your novel.

If you are not following Write a novel in a year you could write about the 2018/19 Australian Budget.

The writers grabbed the words of the day and wrote about - High on sugar, Excitement in space, She tried to think of a story, She stood before a tree, Minding my own business and Do they bottom out - brilliant stories from Pat and Pauline.

Reading of homework
The writers read out their homework on the topics - From one song to another, Invisibility in the city, Is Jennifer my twin, My plans, Lost in France in love and After World War 11.

Exercise – write about work when we were younger

The writers shared an array of interesting stories set in workplaces.  Subjects were Ginger nuts biscuits, Twenty cent tips, On the toy counter, At Woolworths, Filing and errands and discrimination, Selling an idea and The Bundy Clock.

Homework from A novel in a year

Read week 20 starting on page 113. Write an account or story including

·         how you will set yourself a timetable to write

·         how you will deal with Allies and enemies to your writing (things that stop us writing and things that encourage writing)

·         some humour in the writing

The writers grasped the words of the day and wrote salubrious astounding stories about - Trash in a fash, Too small, Not even mildly pleasant, The teacher, To be or not to be, It raised my blood pressure

Five writers read out homework on the subjects - Truth and veils, The limp and no limp, Lost in France – a montage of music, Family experiences and What a brilliant idea.


Exercise – write a letter why you need your job back

The writers wrote about getting back their job after being mistaken about a  Lotto win and bathing. The stories were - Soaking in a tin bath, Have pity on me, On my knees, A warm bath in the lounge room, In a cockney accent, Dear Mr Scrougie and I am not a habitual drinker.

Foment......to promote or foster discord

Again a range of thought processes produced wide ranging stories using these words

Homework reading.
This was to be based loosely on chapter six of our "Writing a novel" book.
This wasn't necessarily the way it was done by all but some interesting writing resulted.

Exercises.
1) We had to write a story about a phone call at 3 in the morning.
2) Again a story incorporating the words "...three days passed before they found the body..."

Write a story based on the contents of Week 7 of our book "A novel in a year"
