Writing from words of the day

The writers used the words of the day to write about - Convicted, Fate, Bowls of fruit, In Jamaica, Reminds me of diarrhoea, Opening of an art exhibition, Fran has perambulated and Monet’s gardens.

Reading of homework

The writers read out homework about their characters on the topics - Refugee neighbours, Ozzas wants respect and acceptance, John shuns society and wants revenge, Arthur colourless character, Tom has it all but doesn’t get it,The musings of a chair and Annie buys around the world ticket.

Exercise – slightly late

The writers did not delay in writing about - Family events, Red lights, late arrival, habits are hard to break, I outdid myself, does it really matter and it has served me well.

Homework – use a metaphor

Complete Exercise 18 including going back to the pile of material you have for your novel and pick a gap – that is add something to your book.

 Writing from words of the day

The writers emerged from the darkness and wrote about - Very soon, Jake, She was tall, Kevin had a slave, A different time, I don’t speak football and The last word again.


Reading of homework

Four writers read their homework on the topics Clancy, This will change my life, Waiting in line and What a bloody cheek.

Exercise – the otherness of night time

The writers  wrote about experiences at night - Scare off the intruders, A pounding heart, Leave it to the SES, A face at the window, I’ll think about that tomorrow, Half asleep and The handy baseball bat.

Exercise - Last chance honey

The writers used the phrase Last chance honey and wrote about - Back with the band, Their own butler, One eyed Jack, An angelic creature, Starting afresh and Flipped a coin.

Exercise 13 from page 138 of ‘A novel in a year” by Louise Dougherty.  Give your character an obstacle, puzzle or challenge as she struggles through the maze of your book.

The writers used the words of the day and created unorthodox stories on the topics - Country lanes, Greek food, The director, Ignorance is bliss, Prose or rhyme, When we first met and High or low score.

Reading of homework

Two diligent writers read out homework on the topics - An indigenous background and The Rocket man and Trump.

Exercise – The book shop

The writers wrote stories about setting up their own bookshop resulting in - Real champagne, Solve your problems, On the daybeds, Hundreds of books and Try before you buy.

Exercise –She heard a voice

The writers wrote about hearing a voice saying - Go back, The children need you, I will save you, Help is on the way and Never swim alone again.

Homework

Complete exercise 9 from page 104 - you could use this as your synopsis to send to publishers. For others write a story from the perspective of an inanimate object.




The Dancing House, or Fred and Ginger, is the nickname given to the Nationale-Nederlanden building in Prague, Czech Republic. It was designed by the Croatian-Czech architect Vlado Milunić in cooperation with Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry on a vacant riverfront plot. The building was designed completed in 1996.

The writers botted the words of the day and wrote on - Instant winnings, The Royal wedding, After the Bees knees night club and Confirmed Royalist.

The four writers wrote about - Lost for words, Meghan awoke, Dark night and Twins in my Brownie group.

Exercise – fondue family dinner


The writers wrote on the topics - hot broccoli, spiked fondue, Friday the 13 th Fondue night and Fondue and a fight

Exercise – Talk is loud, noisy neighbours

The writers provided advice about a noisy neighbour in terms of - A cone of silence and other methods, Shut up & enjoy and Noise can cost.

Try Exercise 8 on page 96 to help fill out a character in your novel. If your characters are full enough write another chapter.
