Country club Sanctuary Point Friday 15 February 2019 Open day

Thank you to Pauline who attended the Open day and talked to people about our group.


The words of the day

Vacuous – empty
Kitsch – gaudy, tasteless
Wordsmith – a skilled user of words
Patronising – think they are superior
Tarmacadam – road surface of tar and stones
Tango – a dance and the letter T in radio communications
Sublime – great excellence and extreme or unparalleled
Mercurial – changeable of light or mood, contains mercury
Panegyric – a speech in praise of someone or something

Writing from words of the day

The wordsmiths wrote about - In praise of the teacher, She must apply herself, The mood of the ballroom, Mrs Bouquet and What I expect.

Opportunities for writing lyrics and getting out your message


Hans Kieft attended the meeting asking if any writers were interested in working with him to write song lyrics to music he composes. Hans would be interested to see some of your previous poems.

Cosmix also talked about opportunities for writers to send out their messages on the second Wednesday of every month after 4 pm at Angels Café. Next opportunity to share your ideas is Wednesday 13 March 2019 4 pm.

Reading of homework

Four writers read out brilliant homework including - Fear of being detained in PNG, Paisley socks, Pressure socks gone, Wide eyed wonder and Feeling like fairy floss.

Exercise – morning after the night before driving home to confess where you have been

Four writers wrote about - An extra shift or was I drugged, One too many Marguerites, In the Kimberley and The fried rice.

Exercise – an object from your life

Five writers read out stories about - My father’s piano, My Queens Guide badge, Koala pyjama bag, I dressed as an Artist and I am dreaming of a Marnado Christmas.

Homework

Write the first and last paragraphs of the book you lack the courage to publish.
