The words of the day


Dearth = shortage
Neophyte = new convert
Irradiate = shines light on
Plethora = excess, abundance
Stratum = a layer, a class in society, deposit in layer
Vernacular = dialect widely used, language, lingo
Paraprosdokian = figure of speech in which the latter part of a sentence, phrase, or larger discourse is surprising or unexpected in a way that causes the reader or listener to reframe or reinterpret the first part

Writing from words of the day

The neophyte and the other writers used their plethora of talents to write stories and poems; Helene - The tradie, Cath - The company, Pauline – When retired, Kristyne – Colourful language, Diane – Not enlightened and Wendy – I was desperate.

Reading of homework

Four committed writers prepared the following homework - Helene – I love fun in winter, Wendy – a wonderful poem, Juan – On the way to the dunny and Pauline – Wild about words at Seechange.

Exercise – I remember .....

Helene – my teenage best friend, 

Cath – my first milkshake, 
Pauline – Cowboys and Indians, Kristyne – In a favourite place, Diane – Planned escape from boarding school and Wendy – my sister June and identical twins.
